Israel’s Election of Grace
Romans 11:1-36

Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. [Romans 11:5]

“The election of grace” is an interesting phrase to ponder. We are well familiar with the word election in this country as we have the freedom to elect [to choose] our public officials every two-to-four years.

God’s election, however, is vastly different from ours. In God’s election He chooses right people with one hundred percent accuracy, and for eternity. He correctly chooses His children before the foundations of the world [ref. Eph1:4].

I find great comfort in that. Before the world was created God chose me, and He chose correctly. How do I know that God chose me? It is because I have chosen Jesus. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16]

The same goes for you. If you have chosen Jesus Christ, then you too can rest in the fact that God chose you. The decision, however, is yours; choosing Jesus is your responsibility. Your choice works in perfect unity with God’s election.

The specifics in Romans 9-11 are God choosing Israel. It is clear in these chapters [and elsewhere in Scripture] that God chose Israel, “to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises.” [Rom 9:4]

But what about Israel today, “at this present time” [Rom 11:5]? Has God rescinded His promises and covenants because of unbelief? Paul’s response: “Certainly not!” [Rom 11:11]

Even though Israel has temporarily fallen away, God “at this present time” has preserved “a remnant according to the election of grace.” [Rom 11:5]

It is fully of grace that a remnant of Israel will be grafted in again [ref. Rom 11:23-24; Rev 7:1-8; Rev 14:1-5]. This will be in the latter days preceding Christ’s return. Those days are right around the corner. They are next on the
Bibles prophetic calendar. Therefore, we must be ready! The fullness of Israel’s election is near.
