 Revelation 14:6-13 Questions:

1.       Rev 14:6-7: “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth – to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people – saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

a.       Explain what the “everlasting gospel” is.  Why within the context of these verses is “Fear God” used to describe this everlasting gospel?  Should fear be used in our preaching of the gospel today?  If so, how so?

b.      “another angel flying in the midst of heaven,” do you think that this is a literal angel?  If so, explain.  If not, explain.

c.       “to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people” – Do you think this is the fulfillment of Jesus’ words in Matt 24:14: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.”?

2.       Rev 14:8: “And another angel followed, saying, ‘Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.’”

a.       “Babylon is fallen, is fallen.”  Where else is similar verbiage used in Revelation?  Do you think this cross reference indicates the time [chronologically speaking] when Rev 14 occurs?  If so, how can we interpret Rev 14 as a whole?

3.       Rev 14:9-10: “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of his indignation.  He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”

a.       John equates taking the mark of the beast to the worship of the beast.  What is the penalty for this as described in v.10?

b.      Explain how one will be “tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”  Is this physical torment or spiritual torment, or both?  How is the Lamb and the holy angels present where this torment occurs?

4.       Rev 14:13: “Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, ‘Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ’  ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their labors and their works follow them.’ “

a.       What does John mean when he writes that the Spirit says, “their works follow them”?

Ezekiel 43-44:

5.       Explain why there will be animal sacrifices during the Millennial Kingdom, even though Jesus will be physically ruling and reigning during that time.

6.       Who is the “prince” referred to in Eze 44:3?  Explain your answer.

One Year Bible Reading: Acts:

7.       Explain Acts 5 in regard to the judgment upon Ananias and Sapphira.  Can this kind of judgment happen in the Church today?  Why or why not?  Please explain your answer.
